TPE Story Short - COVID's Silver Lining: Using my generalist approach to my advantage for job preservation.
COVID's Silver Lining: Using my generalist approach to my advantage for job preservation.
Featured Story Teller: Dr. LaFarin Meriwether, Associate Director for Residence Life at University of North Carolina at Greensboro
Target Audience: Mid-Level / Any

COVID-19 has completely altered job availability and job functionality within student affairs. The Chronicle of Higher Education reports over 300,000 fewer jobs within higher education as the result of the pandemic. We are tired of using the words “pivot” and “unprecedented” to talk about our work. As a collective profession of student affairs practitioners, we may work within one functional area, but many of us, especially at the mid-level, rely on our generalist practices to succeed. This TPE Story Short will feature a personal narrative looking at the silver lining of COVID, and how we must rely on our generalist experiences, skills, and approaches to both persevere and ensure job preservation. This 15-minute personal story will be followed by 15-minutes of Q&A. The entire event is short, simply 30-minutes. Take a break, listen, learn, and connect with others.
