Join the Disability Resource Center's DAP: Disability Allyship Program. The DRC aims to address barriers and facilitate an inclusive experience for UF students with disabilities. While some physical barriers are more easily identified, the most difficult barriers to address are attitudinal and deeply held beliefs. This training will help participants gain an understanding on how society shapes our ideas and beliefs about disability and how we can challenge deficit thinking.
We will explore disability as a framework and a lived experience. We will review the history of disability and how ideas about disability have shifted throughout the years. Our goal is for faculty and staff to reframe how society views disability and celebrate disability diversity. Through this training, we hope UF faculty and staff will become active allies who advocate for disability inclusion within their classrooms, advising, supporting students, and communities.
If you are an individual with a disability and anticipate needing accommodations in order to participate, please contact Beth Roland at firstname.lastname@example.org as early as possible, preferably at least 72 hours prior to the event.
