"Butterflies of Florida" Presented by the Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center
Butterflies of Florida
Curious to learn more about the diverse and beautiful flying insects of the order Lepidoptera? Join Weedon Island Preserve staff for a virtual visit from environmental specialist and butterfly expert Don Stillwaugh as he discusses butterfly natural history, identification, recommended local places to look for butterflies, and how to get more actively involved. With spring approaching, now is the perfect time to learn more about some of the butterflies you'll see this next season!

Don Stillwaugh, a field biologist for over 35 years, has participated in numerous projects and specialized in studying the distributions, life histories, and habitat requirements of a wide variety of insects as well as reptiles and amphibians. He co-founded the Illinois Butterfly Monitoring Network in the late 1980’s and has served as a Florida co-editor for the North American Butterfly Association (NABA) Butterfly Count Program for the past 15 years. He coordinates several NABA Counts and has participated in over 250 NABA Counts in Florida spanning the state from the panhandle to the Keys.
