Haitian Creole in Higher Education Speaker Series Conversation Club
This spring a virtual group, Haitian Creole in Higher Education Conversation Club, is beginning which is a 10-week pilot initiative where once a week Haitian Creole speakers in higher education will meet for one hour. The first meeting will take place on Friday Jan. 29th and end Friday April 2nd. All meetings will take place on Fridays at 3pm Eastern time and will require the Zoom registration link to join which will stay the same for each week. Every week a different speaker from a different type of initiative in Haiti will speak for 20-25 minutes in Haitian Creole about their program, followed by a 10-minute question and answer period. Speakers will be from all areas including non-profits, businesses, research and various other sectors. The second half an hour of the meeting will be friendly conversation between the group participants and may also involve breakout rooms in order to accommodate different language levels and size. Participants are free to join and leave the meeting at any time during the hour. The goals of the group are 1. Creating a safe conversation space where individuals from all different levels of Haitian Creole can meet and feel engaged with the content. 2. The goal of the group is also to highlight the amazing work being done within Haiti in various sectors. The group welcomes anyone with an interest in speaking Haitian Creole.
