What are your thoughts on private vs academic training settings?

My mentor recommended the Bright Futures textbook for some helpful general outpatient guidelines. Since we only get a few months of pediatric training during medical school, are there any other resources or experiences you'd recommend to help us prepare for a successful intern year?
