There is an evident decrease of about 70% on seagrass coverage of an area estimated in about 3 nm2. Causes of the decrease in coverage might be attributed possibly to cold weather and high abundance of sea urchins grazing on seagrass.- Seagrass roots (rhizomes) seems to be in good conditions. After a dormant period during Fall and Spring, they will start re-growth and will reach normal coverage levels.- Sea urchin abundance increased possible due to an important cohort recruitment which will likely be reduced over time.- The surveyed area, which is regularly used by boater as scallop harvesting grounds, show a high reduction on scallop. This is because scallops are seagrass-dependent and the reduction of seagrass coverage exposed scallops to natural predation.https://ncbs.ifas.ufl.edu/extension/florida-horseshoe-crab-watch/
