If I don’t have experience teaching, what should I put in the diversity statement? Especially as the examples of experience?
Amanda Catron (she/her)
46:04
Hi Maria, I'll save your question for Alex when there's another break! :)
Kimberly Ledger
53:51
What would be some examples of “promoting access to scholarship”? Would this include training students and employment opportunities?
Natya Hans
54:50
^ I have the same question. Would it also include outreach in science? Because I think of outreach more as a service.
Amanda Catron (she/her)
55:05
Hi Kimberly and Natya! I've got your question(s) saved! :)
Natya Hans
55:25
Thanks Amanda

Sometimes, promoting diversity is also recognizing the diversity of scholars. For example, in my field Hispanophone scholars tend to be undercited because they don't publish as much in English. So I make a point of reading and citing their work.
Natya Hans
58:38
I think that sums it up

Biology department here, Social media as an extension of your professional self. Twitter has had many great things recently #blackinbirdingweek, #blackinbotany, #blackinmicro, and many other fields, also #disabledinstem, also Twitter is great for sharing new scholarship/grant opportunities that have risen from these efforts
Amanda Catron (she/her)
59:32
Thanks for sharing Lauren! That's a great idea!

I am a grad student who I planning to apply for teaching positions. So I have a more basic question, where I will need this diversity statement? I am wondering is this need to be ready for my application?
Nancy Toffolo
01:01:29
Should professors include a diversity statement in their classes or in their bio?
Amanda Catron (she/her)
01:01:54
Hi Nancy! I've got your question ready for Alex! ;)
