Hi! As a MS1 starting to think about my MSRP project, do you have any recommendations for finding a solid research mentor and/or general advice about research in medical school? (Context: considering derm and a primarily clinical career)

36:58
Hello! This is for Xavier mostly because he said he did a Master’s in medical school. What helped you decide to do the masters, what did you get to do during it/how was it not graduating with the class you started with?

37:02
I got to dip out early to head to LAC, but thank you residents again for chatting with us! Stay safe!

37:03
Hello! Do you have any tips for connecting with faculty and potential mentors as an MS1, especially considering the barriers that COVID presents?

38:53
hi morgan! I was also thinking derm when I did my msrp. Don't be afraid to look for opportunities in other specialities too. So I ended up doing research on skin infections in hematopoietic stem cell transplant patients. This research was actually done through the pathology department rather than derm. However, the research was applicable to derm, path, hem/onc, IM, and infectious disease.

Hello graduates - it's great to see you! Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom & words of encouragement :)

Just a plug for another zoom lecture on this Friday (Alumni Weekend) at 12- open to alumni and students- Terry Knapp, MD'70 will be talking about telemedicine and outcomes based healthcare. He has founded CareSpan Holdings- a multinational digital healthcare delivery system. Given the comments on telehealth, thought there may be interest: https://ufl.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ZuWGdF62SLG597Sf3meSaw

Thank you all!!

For the people who went to UF for undergrad, med school, and now residency, what convinced you to stay at UF instead of going to a different program with a different patient population? I’m also a double gator so I was thinking it might be beneficial to experience a different healthcare setting in residency after being in Gainesville for so long

44:12
Question for Dr. Velez, how did you choose your psychiatry specialty despite starting out with different research interests initially? Also for Dr. Williams, how did you find your opportunities helping the medically underserved?

44:55
Thank you!

49:07
what advice do you have for the graduating MS4s on getting to know our residency program options in the midst of this online interview cycle and making our final rank lists?

55:41
Hi— it would be great to hear from those of you in long-term relationships how wanting to match in the same geographic location as your partner played into the residency match process. Did you have to change your desired field (i.e. choose a less competitive specialty)? Any advice that would make this process easier?

56:19
Hello! At what point during medical school did you choose your specialty?

57:29
Thank you so much for all your insightful responses as well, Dr. Velez and Dr. Laconi!
