What if the name on the presented ID does not match their name in Canvas, such as if they have changed their preferred name?

Hi Chris, if the name doesn’t match, after a few “failed” attempts, one of our proctors will join the session to confirm the student, is in fact the student meant to take the exam.

Do students have to schedule their exam ahead of time? Can I have a whole section of 40 students take the test at the same time in their respective environment?

Why do you choose “network” off?

Hi Gloria, the beautiful thing about Honorlock is there is no need for students to schedule their exam in advance.

Can students paste and copy within the exam?

40 students could take their exam at the same time, in their respective environments without issue.

Hi Sanaz, the Network Speed Test ensures the student has a stable internet connection and the available resources on their computer to take a successful proctored exam. For demo purposes, there is no need to turn this toggle on.

Can students paste and copy within the exam if the Disable Copy/Paste toggle is on?

Hi Markus, copy and paste are prevented within the exam, as well as the ability to print.

With the toggle on, these features are prevented and a flag is generated in the reporting.

How can you whitelist individual softwares? EX:excel

Hi Katie, currently there is no way to whitelist specific applications. In these scenarios where Excel is to be used, please keep BrowserGuard set to OFF. Since Honorlock will be recording the desktop of the student, anytime the student navigates away from their exam in Canvas it will generate a flag for “test window out of focus.” From there, it is very easy in reporting to jump to specific incidents.

Will the Honorlock screen recording capture the work in the other applications when they are out of the browser and in Excel, for example?

Additionally, I would include that information under “Proctor Guidelines” as these flags typically will generate a live pop-in request. Our proctors can then refer to your guidelines and either intervene or make sure the student isn’t interrupted.

Extra time for students who need accommodation (who would have otherwise gone to DRC) - do I need to create separate exams for them? The regular time for the exam is 60 minutes. The accommodation is 150% time, i.e, 90 minutes.

Hi Chris, all work on the desktop is captured in the screen recording. So yes, you would be able to see what is occurring in Excel in HD.

So whatever exam settings that we have set in canvas (when the exam opens/closes, time given for students that includes individual accommodations for more time) will be preserved within HonorLock?

Hi Gloria, adding extra time to students is handled through the Canvas settings. Since Honorlock is deeply integrated into Canvas, we are able to read these settings without issue.

Hi Amber, this is correct. Honorlock is able to “read” this information.

Do I have to create the assessment within Honorlock, or can I apply Honorlock to an assessment that I have created in "quizzes" on Canvas?

If I create a "profile" in HonorLock, do I need to recreate this with each separate Canvas course section, or is there a way to carry the profile over into additional course sections?

Hi Sherrie, there is no need to recreate your exams. The moment that you add the Honorlock LTI to your course, all previously created exams will populate in the LTI and you can simply click enable. Apply your proctoring settings and be good to go!

Hi Amber, any customized proctor profiles created will follow you as the user and can be applied in other courses.

How can I include "file upload question" type in my exam when using Honorlock?

Hi Mengyu, this can be handled as a question during your Canvas exam setup.

So students need to use chrome exclusively in order to use honorlock correct?

Hi Amber, this is correct. For students, they must use Google Chrome, and add the Honorlock Chrome Extension.

Also, can we get access to those bulleted instructions somewhere?

To follow up, if students are required to answer questions on a paper, can they scan their answers or take a picture of the answer and then upload the file without trigging any alert?

What the capability of the Calculator in student view?

Hi Amber, testing guidelines can be found at honorlock.com/testing/guidelines

Hi Mengyu. This would typically trigger a flag. Please include this information under “Proctor Guidelines” to help prevent flags.

Hi Amber, the link I provided is the standard testing guidelines our proctors follow. I strongly encourage sharing it with students before the exam opens. Any instructions that go beyond that sheet, I would suggest adding under “Student Instructions.”

Will the instruction for proper scan be available for us?

Hi Sanaz, just to clarify, did you mean a proper room scan? If so, we actually have a video that can be shared with students to set the expectation.

Students are also provided with on-screen prompts and have the ability to see a replay of their recording before continuing through the authentication process.

How many students can take the exam simultaneously? Does Honorlock have support for large classes to take the exam in parallel or do you recommend windows (class size: 300-400)?

Hi Amanpreet, rest assured, large class sizes are a non-issue. We regularly stress test our system to ensure we can handle thousands of testing sessions at one time.

Sanaz, students are not presented with a way to see any flags generated.

Amber, this is correct. With BrowserGuard enabled, students will be prevented from opening additional tabs, applications or resizing of the test page window. If there is a specific website that you would like for your students to access, you can turn on the “Whitelist URL” toggle and add the site.

What if they use their phone to browse?

If we want the students to all take the exam at the same time, do we need to notify honorlock? I'm wondering how you know to have enough proctors at a given time.

Sanaz, if a student is using their phone to attempt to google a question and land on an Honorlock hosted website, we are able to identify which question was searched for and on what device. This is part due to our patented mobile device detection. If using their phone to browse memes, or chat, we do not have access to this content. Please keep in mind, using a cell phone or other device creates certain behaviors which are recorded and allow us to proactively pop-in to address.

Amber, Honorlock proctors based on the quiz settings set in Canvas. We continuously monitor upcoming exams in our system and staff accordingly.

Can we tell the students to take bathroom breaks as needed or do they need to alert the proctor to the fact they are taking a break?

If part of my exam is closed book, closed notes.... and the second part (software based) does more resources (e.g. open note).... can honorlock handle this? Or would it be best to set up 2 exams (e.g. part I and part II) and adjust the settings accordingly?

Hi Gloria, if students are permitted to take bathroom breaks, please include this in the “Proctor Guidelines” section of Honorlock. As best practice, we also recommend students reach out to our live chat support before leaving the webcams view.
