Assessing and Addressing Deficiencies in the HCM Weaving Segment Analyses- Phase II

The research team developed a speed model for freeway weaving segments that is generic to both simple and complex weaves. The team also proposed an alternate capacity estimation process. The speed model was calibrated using field data from 20 complex and 15 simple weaves. The root-mean-squared error of the calibration and testing process was within 2.36 to 4.7 mph. Moreover, the model requires fewer inputs than the HCM models, uses inputs that are more likely to be available to practitioners, and is sensitive to most of the inputs included in the model.
